Privacy Policy

• Account details: email, username, password hash, and verification, sign-in, password-reset, and security records.
• Profile details you provide: display name, bio, avatar, location text, links, and favourite titles. Location text is optional; we do not collect location histories.
• Your submissions: movie and TV rankings, custom lists, reviews, ratings, likes, Horror Queue entries, watched titles, and related activity dates.
• Service records: preferences, notifications, basic activity totals, and moderation records. Hosting and backend systems may generate limited request, error, and security logs, including IP addresses and browser information.
• Communications: your name, email, message, and anything else you choose to send us.

We use this information to manage accounts, display profiles and submissions, maintain collections, calculate community rankings, send account emails and in-app notifications, and answer messages. It also helps us troubleshoot, moderate content, prevent abuse, and protect ranking integrity.

Basic counts, such as title or list views and shares, support discovery features. These are not advertising profiles or cross-site browsing histories. Optional profile details are not required to browse the site.

Your profile, username, profile details, favourite titles, published rankings, public lists, reviews, ratings, and likes can be public. Your Horror Queue and watched activity are also available through your public profile. Only add information to these features that you are comfortable sharing.

Unpublished ranking drafts and lists marked private are not public pages. Account emails and authentication details are not displayed on profiles. Public content may be copied or indexed by others outside our control.

Cookies, authentication tokens, and similar browser storage support sign-in, keeping you signed in, and security. Local storage may remember preferences such as your colour theme. Blocking this storage can prevent account features from working.

Freakycast does not set advertising or marketing cookies or install third-party behavioural tracking tools for its own use. However, opening a trailer loads a YouTube player. YouTube may then use cookies and collect viewing and device information for its own purposes, including advertising, under Google's Privacy Policy. You can use Freakycast without opening trailers.

• Vercel hosts and delivers the website and may process request and security information.
• Convex runs our backend, database, authentication, and file storage, processing account details and submitted content.
• Resend delivers verification, password-reset, and contact-form emails, processing addresses and message contents. Contact messages also reach our email inbox provider.
• TMDB supplies movie and TV metadata and artwork. Images load from its image service, which receives ordinary request information such as your IP address. Our integration does not send it account details or rankings. TMDB does not operate Freakycast.

We use these providers to operate the service, not to advertise to you. Information may be processed or stored outside Quebec and Canada, where different laws may apply. External links and YouTube players have their own privacy practices.

We may disclose information when legally required or permitted to address fraud, security incidents, or threats to people or the service. Access within Freakycast is limited to operational, support, and moderation needs. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

We keep information while needed to provide the service. You can delete your account in Settings with your current password and deletion confirmation, or email us if you need help or cannot sign in.

Successful account deletion removes your profile, sign-in and recovery records, draft and published rankings, older votes, custom lists, reviews, ratings, likes, queue, watched entries, and account notifications from the active database. It also removes your saved avatar and any Signal posts and saved featured images you authored, along with associated in-app notices and identifiable audit records linked to your account.

Your ranking contributions are removed and affected community chart totals are recalculated from the remaining submissions. If deletion fails, we do not report it as complete; you can retry or contact us for help. If you deleted an account before this cleanup was introduced, contact us to check for remaining records.

Contact emails, moderation records, logs, and backups may remain separately. Further retention must be reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, legal obligations, backup recovery, or ranking integrity, subject to applicable law. Aggregate rankings are not a blanket reason to keep identifiable records indefinitely.

You can edit your profile and manage submissions in the app. Under applicable Quebec and Canadian privacy law, you may request access, correction, deletion, or withdrawal of consent where applicable. You may also request a structured, commonly used electronic copy of information you provided, or cessation of publication or de-indexing, where legal conditions apply. Withdrawing information needed for an account may prevent us from providing account features.

Contact us below with requests or complaints. We may verify your identity using only reasonably necessary information. Access and correction requests are answered within the legal deadline, generally 30 days in Quebec. You can also contact Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information.

Teenagers can participate with a parent's or guardian's permission where required by law. For children under 14, a parent or guardian must contact us before account creation so required consent can be addressed. We do not currently provide an automated parental-consent process. Please contact us if a child has provided information without required consent.

The person responsible for the protection of personal information is the Freakycast operator. Email freakycast45@gmail.com and address your message to the Privacy Officer. No account is needed to email us. Signed-in members can also use our contact form.

We will update this page and its date as practices change. For material changes, we will provide appropriate notice and obtain consent where required. This policy does not limit your statutory privacy rights.
